Mundane Vedic Astrology is the branch of Vedic Astrology that deals with the planetary influences through signs and planetary periods in the charts of nations, cities, organizations, corporations, business organizations, etc.  It covers objectives and goals of nations, their wealth, political stability, financial position, development, relationship with other countries/nations, natural calamities, public health, infrastructure development, national income, spiritual pursuits followed by its people, etc.

The impact is seen through the houses which govern certain specific aspects of national life/organization life; through the signs which show the level of influence; and the planets which show their results through their placement in the chart, their strength, their functional nature and their relationship with other planets/houses through conjunctions and aspects.  All the planetary influences are seen, particularly those resulting from a close conjunction/aspect to other planets and/or most effective points of the various houses and those resulting from the mooltrikona signs of various planets falling in various houses.

The planetary influences for the countries are also seen through the charts of the rulers/chief political executives at different points of time in the life of a nation.  In fact the charts of nations and the charts of the rulers/chief political executives work in consonance with each other.

The various houses in a nation's chart represent the following aspects of a nation's life:

First House

The general conditions of the country as a whole, state of law and order, people and their general outlook, public health, government, reputation, valor and its position in the world. The close afflictions to the first house or its lord or the weak planets placed in the first house indicate setbacks for the national identity.

Second House

The second house primarily deals with national wealth, status and relationships within a country and with its neighbors.  It also rules the purchasing power of the people, financial stability, national income, strength of currency, budget and balance of trade. The close afflictions to the second house or its lord from malefic houses or the malefic planets placed in the second house or aspecting the second house indicate loss of reputation and setbacks for the financial resources.

Third House

The third house rules leadership, the communication of the Government with the public, means of communications in the country including transport, media, telecommunications and information technology.  It governs authors, philosophers, philosophical thought, literature and literary people, education and infra-structural facilities in the country besides governing democracy and peace talks. The close natal or transit afflictions to the third house or its lord or the malefic planets placed in the third house indicate accidents regarding the means of communications.

The close afflictions to the ninth house or its lord by the malefic planets, especially Rahu or Rahu-like planets, bring the incidence of corrupt practices and setbacks for the fortune of the country.

Twelfth House

The twelfth house rules financial losses, expenditure, mishaps, group hospitalizations, foreign debt, wars and smuggling. The close afflictions to the twelfth house or its lord by the malefic planets from the malefic houses indicate losses for the country.

The planets rule the following significations:

It acts as the significator for the ninth house. When strong, it rules expansion and optimism.

VENUS       : Venus is the indicator of material comforts, women’s power, worldly knowledge and pursuits, creativity, art and rich tastes, ministers, knowledge of life saving drugs, financial administration, entertainment, painting, music, architecture, decorative arts, entertainers, models, textiles, advertising, legal, teaching, hotels, aviation, medicines, medical research, design, fashion and luxurious items, hotels, women folk, cinema industry, arts and leisure industry.  It acts as the significator for the seventh house.

It is the power of the State which is shown through the strength of the currency. The authority is first vested in the Sun/the second house and then in the Moon. The good financial strength of the nation/wealth is seen through the second house and the regular flow of income is seen through the eleventh house. If there is no mooltrikona sign in the eleventh house then we can refer to the tenth and third houses. Taking all these factors together the real strength of the currency of a particular country is identified.

When comparing the strength of the currency of one nation against another, the exchange rate movement will depend upon the following factors in the country’s chart:

1. Planetary strength

2. Transit influences

Operating sub-periods

A further nuance is that the entire chart must be seen as a complete entity in these three considerations and not just a single element. However, it is helpful to consider the indicators of currency strength for an assessment of the potential strength and resilience of each currency and also any long-lived transit influences on them.

For every 1° of orb of an aspect in a mundane chart, the impact would be fully felt in 50 years from the birth of the country.

In the mundane chart look for the prime influence of the lord of the ascendant, the lord of the tenth house, the lord of the third house in the third house, the lord of third house influencing the first or tenth houses (especially if it happens to be the Sun or Mars). The additional influences will be the lord of the sixth house in first, third or fourth houses.

With increasing democratic values world-wide while dictatorships may not be possible easily in the future, assertive and authoritarian leaders are likely to be emerging. The authoritarian tendencies of the ruling political leaders have tremendous impact on the socio-economic life of the people.

As the eighth house rules belief of the masses, a strong eighth house in the birth chart of the leaders helps them to have mass support. If there is no mooltrikona sign in the 8H, then the lord of the fourth house will be considered. And if even the fourth house does not contain a mooltrikona sign, then the ninth house is considered. In cases where also the ninth house does not contain a mooltrikona sign the planet Sun, as the general significator, will be considered.

Those having a strong third house will be futuristic leaders and those with a strong ninth house will be able to realize their ambition and future plans. In the absence of a mooltrikona sign in these houses consider the Sun for being futuristic.

The influence of lord of the sixth house on the third, first or tenth house in a mundane chart makes a nation aggressive while dealing with others. The influence of lord of the sixth house on the fourth or second house increases the debts and conflicts for the nation.

The close affliction of the lord of the eighth house on the fourth, second or sixth houses causes setbacks to the assets of the nation. The strong affliction of the lord of the eighth house to the weak lord of the fourth house or the sixth house makes the nation vulnerable to natural calamities, earthquakes and fatal accidents.

The close or exact influence of the lord of the eighth house on the other planets threatens the survival of the signification of the afflicted planets/ houses.

The strong affliction of the lord of the twelfth house indicates losses through vices, corruption and unmindful expenses on excessive fun activities e.g.: the lord of the twelfth house on the most effective point of the second house indicates loss of status/reputation due to corrupt practices and indecent behavior of some of the members of the society. For example, the incidence of rape by a few spoils the reputation of the nation as a whole, signaling that the women are not safe.

The strong prolonged transit malefic influences (i) on the weak planets in the chart of a nation or (ii) such influences on the most effective point of the fourth house or (iii) such influences on the most effective point of the  malefic houses cause natural calamities in the form of earthquakes, floods, tsunami, cyclones etc.

When the lord of the tenth house is strongly placed in various houses in a Mundane Chart, its results can be identified as per the following table:

Makes the nation disciplined and active to achieve greater success.

Helps the nation achieve better status and wealth due to good governance.

Makes its people enterprising and innovative thus creating lots of wealth and prosperity for the nation.

Helps the nation in enhancing the assets of the nation.

Helps the nation in creating good educational facilities and enhancing its intellectual capital. It also brings happiness for the younger generations of the nation.

Brings in the incidence of financial difficulties, debts, higher fiscal deficit and conflicts thus creating unrest.

Helps the nation in enhancing its image by forging international alliances to achieve global objectives.

Brings the incidence of obstructions, policy paralysis and sudden setbacks to the economy.

Makes the nation fortunate in the matter of natural resources and higher education.

Helps the nation in achieving greater heights through its government.

Helps the nation in generating more and rewarding employment avenues for its people.

Brings the incidence of losses and wasteful expenses due to bad governance.

In the natal chart any planet, whether slow or fast moving, may bring about the above-mentioned results if this planet is strong especially in its own planetary periods. The slow moving planets like Jupiter and Saturn bring such results, even in their transits in different houses.

The lords of various houses, when strong or fairly strong, generate the following results:

Blesses the nation with good standing and progress.

Helps the nation in achieving good wealth, happiness and status.

Develops good leaders and entrepreneurs which bring success to the nation.

Blesses the nation with good natural resources, happiness and prosperity.

The SAMVA is a discussion list on Yahoo Groups. The name SAMVA stands for Systems’ Approach to Mundane Vedic Astrology. Its name reflects the mission of the list to have an exclusive focus on the Systems’ Approach (SA) when analyzing mundane horoscopes. Today, the list has close to one thousand members worldwide and the topics discussed include horoscopes of nations and their leaders and the national developments, including political elections and international relations.

A major emphasis of the initial work on the SAMVA list has been to rectify or verify the authenticity of horoscopes for many countries. This effort has benefited enormously by the application of SA predictive techniques. Mr. VK Choudhry has given invaluable guidance to the work of the list members over the years, increasing the chances of successful predictions.

There have been many charts proposed for the USA by various astrologers. Since 1999, SAMVA was actively in search of an authentic chart for the USA based on the predictive techniques of SA. The aim was to find a horoscope that reflected the characteristics and history of the USA as the economy of the USA influences other economies in the world. The search was led by Mr. Thor Thorgeirsson in close coordination with Mr. VK  Choudhry which resulted in the finding of a 20° Cancer rising horoscope for the USA based on the time when Maryland became the 13th and final state to ratify the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union. At the moment the act to ratify was signed by the Governor in front of both Chambers of the State House the time was 5:00 PM on February 2, 1781 in Annapolis, MD (relocated to the capital at the time, Philadelphia, PA). Importantly, this 13th ratification established the requisite unanimous consent by all the States to form a Perpetual Union, thereby founding the national entity that is the USA. This historical event and chart was co-discovered by SAMVA list members, Mr. Thorgeirsson and historical scholar John Thomas Wyder Battalana on December 30, 2006. Success is owed to the collaborative nature of the SA lists.

This chart has been proved to be right in view of many successful predictions made by Messrs. Thorgeirsson and Choudhry on SAMVA group. Their success draws out the necessary requirement for accurate predictions by having both an accurate system of astrology, like SA, and an authentic mundane horoscope, like the SAMVA USA chart. Without SA predictive techniques the repeat of accurate predictions becomes impossible.

The SAMVA USA horoscope and other mundane horoscopes have been researched using SA predictive techniques. Most of these charts have proved their worth by being the basis for many accurate predictions in recent years.
