GENERAL CONCEPTS OF ASTROLOGY

1. What are the significators of Karma?
Answer: The primary significators of profession, character (fourth house), initiatives and the lord of the ascendant (if the ascendant contains a moolatrikona sign) act as significators for Karma. The impact of Rahu on these significators makes one manipulative in tendencies and obstructs the spiritual growth. It requires a long experience to decipher such things from the chart.
2. What is the difference between a weak and afflicted planet as far as significations go?
Answer: A weak planet is unable to protect /promote its significations. The weak planet also causes delays. If an afflicted planet is strong it gives some tension as per the level of affliction and nature of the afflicting planet. If an afflicted planet is weak the significations of such a weak planet are damaged and lost.
3. Will a strong afflicted planet cause less harm than a weak afflicted?
Answer: Certainly, yes.
4. Do functional malefic planets, when not causing afflictions in the chart, never cause any harm?
Answer: In their sub periods they cause some tension to the person with the significations of the houses occupied and aspected.
5. How we predict the end of a delay in bearing fruit of a weak transit planet?
Answer: When the said weak transit planet gains strength.
6. When the planet makes contact by transit or aspect, if it is weak, we don't see results until it becomes strong in the transit house?
Answer: At that time there is hope. Result comes with strength.
7. Let's say one's natal Jupiter is debilitated at birth, then the benefits of transiting Jupiter, even when exalted in transit, will be somewhat marred by the natal weakness.
Answer: Correct.
8. When a functional benefic planet is in a dusthana house, (sixth, eighth, or twelfth), either in transit or in the natal chart, its significations are harmed?
Answer: When it is in a malefic house, its positive results are obstructed, and it gives short lived problems connected with the house of placement. Real problems are there if it is afflicted in that situation, both by transit or natal functional malefic planets.
9. It is agreed that the Sun is a relatively fast moving planet, but it stays in one house for a month...So for that month, can it become afflicted. Isn't that sufficient enough slow speed to account for something?
Answer: If there is no affliction, the transit impact remains to the extent of just a tension, with no real damage except delay, which is obvious because of the weakness due to a bad placement.
10. Does it matter if the aspecting malefic planet is strong or weak?
Answer: The impact would be bad in both cases where the aspecting/conjunct malefic is strong or weak. To gauge it to demonstrate, is difficult.
11. If one's natal Sun is quite 'OK' in the rasi chart, without being either particularly weak or strong, then being exalted in Navamsa will certainly help.
Answer: As its strength has not deteriorated in the navamsa, it will help.
12. Are there various levels of weakness in planets. For example: Planet A is well placed and is only weak because its dispositor is weak. Planet B is also well placed but is weak because it is in the state of infancy and combust. In the above case both planets are functional benefics and the Sun is also a functional benefic. Is planet B regarded more weak than planet A.
Answer: When a planet is weak on more than one accounts its degree of weakness is higher.
13. Does the answer also apply to the strong planets?
Answer: Yes please.
14. Does a planet need to fulfill all the requirements, which make a planet strong? Example - If say a planet is in its mooltrikona sign in say the third house and has no afflictions and none of the attributes which would make it weak (example: bad dispositor) does this automatically make it a strong planet?
Answer: That is right.
15. Suppose we have the extreme case of 30 degrees or 1 degree rising, Then for a functional benefic planet to give full results is it necessary that the planet must be located at 30 degrees or at 1 degree? However if the planet is actually at 30 degrees it has lost all strength due to old age. As it moves away from 30 degrees it regains strength but loses impact.
Answer: The significations of a house are influenced by either the strength of its lord or significator or the influence of a planet on its most effective point. So, if the lord or significator of the house is strongly well placed in the chart, the house will prosper and it is not necessary that some planet must influence its most effective point.
16. A functional malefic planet does not lose power to do harm in the state of weakness due to infancy or old age (according to SA). Is this correct ?
Answer: Yes, this is correct.
17. Does the SA recognize the fact that the debility is made up [100% to 0% range] if the debilitated planet is exalted or in own sign in navamsa?
Answer: No.
18. Is there any rule that can help interpreting the consequences of different kinds of weaknesses?
Answer: Generally, the extreme infancy fails to generate results while the mritavastha (extreme old age) delays, inordinately. Debilitation and debilitation in navamsa shows deterioration. Bad placement results in obstructions, damages and losses. The weakness results of a planet being weak due to the weakness of its dispositor depend upon the type of weakness of its dispositor.
19. If a planet is strong in rasi but debilitated in navamsa, does this result in different results from what would be the case if the planet was debilitated in rasi but strong in navamsa?
Answer: No.
20. Would weakness due to debilitation lead to different things being affected, as against weakness due to being placed in a bad house?
Answer: Yes. Debilitation delays. Bad placement gives the impact of the concerned house.
21. Is it better to strengthen the weak dispositor or better to strengthen the planet weakened? Would it depend on whether the dispositor is benefic or malefic?
Answer: If both are benefic, both should be strengthened. Otherwise the functional benefic of the two should be strengthened.
22. It is understood that the functional malefic planets, while obstructing the activities of planets that they happen to be afflicting, are still good for their own signification. Is this true only for their moolatrikona sign significations or also for their other sign and their place of residence, as is the case for other planets?
Answer: Generally, it is for moolatrikona sign houses.
23. It is stated in the book that when a malefic planet is weak this does not affect the malefic nature of its aspects as this comes from the position of its moolatrikona sign in the natal chart. Does this also apply to benefic planets? In other words, if we have say benefic Jupiter aspecting another benefic, say Saturn, would the effect of the aspect be benefic irrespective of the strength of Jupiter?
Answer: Yes. The level of impact is different than the nature, which depends upon the strength of the planet.
24. If a benefic planet and a malefic planet have a close conjunction say less than 1 degree and both are weak - how will they affect each other?
Answer: Malefic planet benefits while the benefic planet suffers.
25. In the above conjunction, would there be any difference if they were say 3 degrees apart?
Answer: The impact of both affliction and auspicious influence would be comparatively less. Each degree's influence is reckoned to the extent of 20%.
26. Is it correct to say if the two planets in conjunction are three degrees apart and the benefic planet is weak while the malefic planet is strong, the general and particular significations for the benefic planet will be badly affected, while the significations for the malefic would not be benefited?
Answer: Yes.
27. Since the number of malefics varies from just two for Gemini to five for Taurus, Virgo and Pisces, does it mean that if we collect a large statistics, then people with Gemini rising would be generally happier and more fortunate?
Of course the effect of transits and weakness of planets etc has to be accounted for, but if we assume a more or less fixed rate of birth of children in the world, then should statistics show that Gemini is a better sign to be born in?
Answer: The results of planets depend upon their strength, placement and conjunctions/aspects. Geminians are generally less troubled than the others because less number of functional malefic planets. Similarly, the most troubled are Virgos followed by Pisces and Taurus.
28. "The astrological remedial measures are only psychological or have they any effect on human life". Please comment. Answer: Remedial measures are both curative and preventive and are best. Let me tell you that those who say that the remedial measures are only psychological, in my opinion, lack wisdom. Not only they ignore the ancient wisdom they create doubts in the minds of others about the efficacy of the ancient knowledge. Though there is difficulty in showing a direct cause and effect relationship in a scientific manner but evidence can be proving for those who take shelter of the astrological remedial measures. When all worldly sciences fail people come to astrology for seeking remedies and get the benefits with the remedies. If remedies were applied in the first place in many cases the problems can be or could have been just avoided.
Just consider the impact of astrological remedial measures where 50 persons come to an astrologer for seeking remedies for prime sterlity after 10 to 15 years of their marriage. If the majority of the persons after performance of the astral remedies get a child, would the people terming remedies as psychological agree to the effectiveness of the astral remedies or not - I leave it to their judgement. Those who are impelled by God, seek and take benefit of the astal remedies. Those who indulge in arguments may or may not get the benefits as they lose trust in the process.
Astrological Remedial Measures are applied for strengthening weak functional benefic planets through the Kavach and Gems and for propitiating the functional malefic planets to reduce their afflictions both in natal and transit charts.
29. What is a Gand Mool Nakshatra Birth Dosha:

ANSWER:

In Classical astrological literature if a child is born in the Jyestha, Aashlesha, Revati, Mool, Magha and Ashwini Nakshatra, the child is considered to be born in Gandant/Moola Nakshatras and the child is not considered to be born in an auspicious time. It is believed that such a child faces misfortunes at early stages in life. Therefore, for the pacification of this 'Gandant/Moola Nakshatra dosha', some specific rites are performed 27th days after the birth when the same Nakshatra returns. Jyeshtha and Moola are also called 'Gandant Moola' while Aashlesha is called as 'Sarpa Moola'.

Under the Systems'Approach analysis every child born in Gandant or Moola Nakshatra is not found to be born in inauspicious times. In fact everything depends upon the strength of the planets and especially the strength of the planets whose sub periods are likely to operate in early years of life.
